Happy Thursday!

Hi folks! I really hate that I can’t write very often anymore. But I’ll try to put something up at least once a week.

Last weekend was great. Well, it started off not so great. I’m not terribly superstitious, but honestly, every time a Friday the 13th pops up on the calendar, something bad happens. To me, a friend, a family member. Every time. This one was no different. As soon as I arrived at the office on Friday morning, I had a message from my mother. It’s an emergency. Dammit! So I call her back and she’s done something to her foot and can’t walk. Meanwhile, I’m supposed to pick up my boss’s nephew from the airport, take him to her house to drop off his bags, walk the dog and bring the nephew back to the office. I call my mom back and find out if she can hang in there until I’m done with my errands. Yeah, she’s not dying, so it’s ok. I complete my tasks as quickly as possible and rush over to her house to get her to the doctor.

We arrived 15 minutes early to her doctor, but waited over 30 minutes to see him. Why bother to make an appointment then? I hate that. Moving on. I have a hard time seeing my mom as an ‘old’ person, because she’s just my mom. She’s not old to me. But in the waiting room of her doctor’s office, she was the youngest patient there. These folks were OLD. There were these two old men sitting there, probably in their late 70’s at least, each talking over the other cuz they couldn’t hear a thing. They were flirting with me, it was quite adorable. They commented on my “go-go” boots and asked if I drove a sports car. Ha! Too cute. Turns out mom has a stress fracture, and the only way to heal it is to stay off of it. Yeah, right. My mother is the world’s most stubborn person. Keeping her off her feet is like keeping me away from cake – it’s just not gonna happen. But she’s at home, resting, and she’ll be off work for the next couple of weeks.

Let’s see, what else. Lots of projects right now. We (Evan and I) are putting together our own production company. We have a name and email, we need to get business cards, a DBA and a webpage started. More details to come, fun and exciting stuff! I’m also working with some folks to put together a comedy workshop for kids. I’m creating the the core content for the curriculum, we have a location, and we purchased a domain over the weekend. More planning to do, and we need to get the instructors nailed down. Not literally. And I need to write some new jokes. But with all these other things going on, I may have to skip performing for a little bit to concentrate on the producing side. I’ll get back to it though. We’re trying to write Evan a good stand-up set as well. I want to see him perform again. He’s great on stage, and I know he misses it.

Can I just tell you how excited my kids are about the move? Especially my son. He just likes Evan so much, and he’s very happy that we’re moving in together. They get along great. Well, he gets along great with all of them. Even the teenager is ok with it, which is a shock to me. I figured there would be some slight resistance from at least one of them, but no, they’re all cool with it. I’m sure there will be some bumps along the way, but nothing life-shattering I’m sure.

I’m staying busy, as usual. Taking care of mom, running errands, working on the curriculum, open mic last nite, chilling at home tonite cuz I had to work late and I’m exhausted. Late show on Friday. Oh, that reminds me – this Friday is my oldest daughter, Lauran’s birthday. She’s turning 17. Holy crap! So, for her birthday I told her that she could pick her favorite comedians to do the 11 PM show on Friday nite, and she can bring some friends. Who’s the coolest mom ever? That’s right. It’s me. Should be a lot of fun. Seth, Corey, Bryce and Billy will be performing for sure, perhaps a couple of others. She told Evan and I that we both had to perform too. Ha!

Damn I’m a happy chick. Hope you all are doing well.

Dance Dance Revolution

I’ve always said, if you don’t want people to read something, don’t put it on your blog. Learned my own lesson. I’ve never been one to censor myself, regardless of who my words may affect. I’ve been Ms. Nice Guy for years, rarely do I stand up for myself or cause a fuss. At least here, I can say whatever I want, without repercussions. Or so I thought. Silly me. Moving on.

I know it’s a little late to talk about New Years eve, but what the hell? Sorry. Suck it up and pretend this was written 13 days ago.

We took the children to Dave and Buster’s for dinner and gaming. The boys played shooting games while Emily and I played the games that give you coupons. We won a lot of coupons. The little ones both walked away with a toy of their choice. I wanted the shot glasses, but no. I let them have my share so they could get something bigger.

I have to tell you about the dance guy. You know that game that has the touch pads on the floor and you have to dance and hit the ones that are lighting up? What the hell is that thing called, Dance Dance Revolution or something like that? Anywho. So there’s this guy playing the game. Picture if you will – White guy, mid to late 30’s, really tall, thin, lanky, balding, with glasses. He’s wearing a white t-shirt (not a wife beater), 70’s style gym shorts, calf-high gym socks and sneakers. But the best part? He had his own sweat towel. Yes. A sweat towel. Are you kidding me? So this guy is dancing – well, I guess you call it dancing - all over the place. He gets all of the game moves perfect every time, but he still looks like a complete dork! He took on challengers and beat them, but I think they just did it for laughs. He was there for hours. We sat down, ordered food, played games, ate food, played more games, and he was still there! Seeing him attempt to mack on two asian girls was quite the spectacle. We laughed so hard. Well, Emily didn’t, she told us we were mean. (A teenage girl with compassion for the nerds? No way!) I wonder if he attempts those nifty moves at a club? I wonder if the staff has a nick-name for him? Cuz it looks like he spends a lot of time there. When we got home, irony or ironies, the South Park episode where the boys ‘got served’ and had to form a dance group was on. They found one kid in the arcade. He was a master of the dance game. “Dance without a machine? That’s just stupid!”

So if you’re in the neighborhood, stop by Dave and Buster’s at 75 and Walnut Hill. I have a feeling that guy is still there, dancing his dorky little self to death, sweat towel in hand.

I’ve been listening to Mitch Hedberg’s “Strategic Grill Locations” in the car. He recorded it at the Laff Stop in Houston (which is where I started doing comedy). Man, was he wasted. But still funny. What a loss.

Yes, I'm still alive...

Bloggers, happy new year! 2006 is going to be a great year. How do I know? Well, I don’t for sure, but I’m terribly optimistic. I think this is the longest I've gone without writing. Don't think I care for it. Let's catch up, shall we?

I’m producing the 11 PM slot on Fridays this month for the club. Comics, hit me up for stage time. I just found out about this last Friday at 5 PM. Rob called and said they needed something for the timeslot. I wasn’t sure I would be able to put it together with such short notice. But then I remembered that I am the most amazing chick ever, and I managed to line up 6 good, solid comics for a very nice late show. Yay me! Evan and I are going to be putting together more stand-up shows for earlier time slots. More info to come.

We’re finished with the script, finally. Well, at least what we could do with it. I’m frustrated that things took an ugly turn there at the end. You get 5 or 6 people together with very different perspectives, and they don’t always mesh. There were lots of other issues – people’s cell phones not working when you needed to reach them, people missing meetings, and others not getting you the pages they were supposed to work on. Poor communication all around. It adds up to a huge clusterfucked mess. Sure, we were late to meetings a couple of times, but the only meeting we missed was when I was deathly ill after Christmas. We put a lot of time and effort into the project. But it’s over, it’s complete, and I guess that’s all that matters. Now we’re free to work on OUR projects, I’m looking forward to those, we have some great ideas and lots of folks who want to help.

We’ve seen a few movies recently. The Ringer, Fun with Dick and Jane, and Hostel. Oh yeah. My favorite of the three. Very twisted and sick, and I loved it. Not recommended for those with a weak constitution. Evan laughed his evil laugh at the worst parts, which in turn made me laugh. I don’t think others found the humor in it, but I was amused. The Ringer was funny, and I am not at all ashamed that we took my kids to see it, so there! Fun with Dick and Jane was a good Jim Carrey flick. Not great, but not terrible.

Looking at moving soon. Evan and I have decided to cohabitate. I'm excited! I’ll miss my house. Well, it’s not my house, but I’ve lived here for three years. Geez, has it been that long? I’ll miss my roomies too, but I’m sure they will be happy to have more space and a less crowded home. And they won’t have to worry about keeping me up at nite with their crazy rock and roll music. Lol. And I’m looking forward to having a place that’s really mine, or should I say ours, and not someone else’s, where we can all feel at home and comfortable.

Smiling and happy today, just the way I want to be. No complaints. My voice is back. My kids are well. My job is better. Or at least I’m trying to make it that way. I’m still funny, I feel great and my boyfriend is amazing (except when he wears socks with flip flops). What’s better than that? It’s about damn time. I’ve waited a long time to be this happy.

It was worth the wait.
