For Blogness Sake

I really should be in bed by now. I'm exhausted. What a day. But, what the hell, I'll share.

I finally got to see the DVD of my showcase in June. It was cool. As much as I hate to see myself on video, I sat through it, and here's what we thought about it:

My critique:
1. I stepped on my punch lines
2. I need to work on my throwaways
3. I laugh really loud - not during my set, but others. But we knew this.

Seth's critique:
Good set, Jenn.

Thanks man. Critique me tomorrow.

On a completely unrelated note - does anyone know how to re-attach a side mirror on a Grand Am? Or know of any job openings? Will tell jokes for food?

Worst. Day. Ever.
Well, for me anyway. On the upside - I've made someone in another country very happy. You win. Yay.

I'm Mr. Brightside.

Who's getting me drunk at Scooter's tomorrow nite?

I am my own worst critic, of course. I think that's probably true for most of us comics. We're way harder on ourselves than we should be. I didn't even mention how freaking HUGE I looked on camera. My self-esteem had already taken too many hits yesterday. Time for Trim Spa for real!

Sometimes a pause is so difficult, but they wait for it. When people wait for something, even for a few seconds, it so much better. Like Christmas. Sometimes I look at my audience like I loathe them. not wanting them to hear the punchline, then when they start to get uncomfortable, I drop it. That is how it happens on nights that I bomb.

LOL! I know that feeling. I don't know a single comic who hasn't bombed hard at least a few times.

At the gong show Saturday nite, the audience was so with me, and I had to pause more than usual because they were still laughing! At one point I picked up my beer and said, "Well, I'll just take a drink while you keep clapping."

And they did! Damn that was awesome.

Best set ever, followed by worst day ever. The universe is in balance once again. :)

Your set was great, you did step on lines, you do need to work on throwaways... but in the last few weeks you have been rocking the lines and punching the throwaways... Houston proved that... the only comedian to get laughs and cheers from the crowd the entire night!

Then you won the Gong show!

BTW You didn't make anyone happy... but yourself...

Thank you. Houston was great, it really was.

I think you may be wrong about that last part though. I make a lot of people happy, whether they acknowledge it or not.

Someday I'm gonna get a laugh. But then the next day I will probably die a horrible death to balance out my universe.

And Tom, you will get a laugh. I think I've only seen you perform one time. I look forward to seeing you, and I promise to give you one of my very loud, very boisterous laughs, whether you're funny or not. :)
